Liquefied natural gas

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is one of the fastest growing energy sources globally. This growth is being driven by the impact of new supply from the US and Australia, new liquefaction technologies, lower cost floating regasification solutions (FSRU, FSU etc.), and depressed LNG prices. Market forces are enabling new countries to join the LNG import club and making LNG a popular fuel choice for power generation.

Galway foresees these trends continuing, with Asia in particular driving demand. We have a proven track record assisting clients through the full life cycle of LNG project development: from the initial stage of project conceptualization, through commissioning and project optimization. Our in-depth understanding of the global LNG business is based on over two decades of LNG project work across all regions and covering the full spectrum of the LNG value chain, from liquefaction to LNG regasification.

Galway’s consultants are market leaders in the LNG industry, some of which have built and managed LNG projects since the 1970s. Our consultants have a robust understanding and insight into how decisions are made, and how decisions made early in the project life-cycle can impact the ultimate viability of the LNG project. Leveraging its LNG project experience, Galway can provide informed and strategic advice to assist clients in their project development efforts, to optimize project costs and project development timelines.

gas to power

Although power generation from traditional fuel sources such as oil, coal, diesel and gas continue to provide a substantial share of electricity production globally, many countries are working toward reducing their CO2 emissions by introducing cleaner fuel sources, such as renewables, to the energy mix. Gas is proving to be an attractive baseload fuel choice to be used in conjunction with renewables, as it is the cleanest of the conventional hydrocarbons. Indeed, Galway has observed a surge in the number of LNG-to-power projects coming online in recent years, particularly in emerging markets. Lower LNG prices and quicker, more flexible offshore import solutions are contributing to the uptake of such projects.

Galway’s consultants have strong experience in the power segment providing support to clients around power generation, transmission, distribution, trading, power sector regulation.

agricultural waste to energy

Large quantities of agricultural wastes resulting from crop cultivation activity are a promising source of energy supply and is rapidly developing in countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, India, Myanmar, Philippines, and Malaysia. On an average 1.5 tons of crop residue are generated for processing 1 ton of the main product. The “waste-to-energy” conversion processes for heat and power generation, and even in some cases for transport fuel production, has phenomenal economic and market potential. They have value particularly in rural community applications, and are used widely in countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, USA, Canada, Austria and Finland. The Waste to Energy market is certainly set to grow over the years in South Asia and S E Asia. Galway Group is uniquely positioned in this growing market to offer domain knowledge, technology adaptation expertise and plays a lead role to enable and catalyze Waste to Energy projects from concepts to demo plants to full scale commercial production plants, including the supply chain management for agricultural waste and energy/fuel distribution.

Galway’s Agricultural Waste to Energy services include assistance with:

Energy storage

Developing technology, processes and systems to store electrical energy so it can be made available to meet demand whenever needed would represent a major breakthrough in electricity distribution. Electricity storage devices can manage the amount of power required to supply customers at times when need is greatest, which is typically during peak load. These energy storage devices can also help make renewable energy, whose power output cannot be controlled by grid operators, smooth and dispatchable. Energy storage can also balance microgrids to achieve a good match between generation and load.

The electrification of transport is playing a big role in the global aim to achieve de-carbonation of the electricity sector. Electric vehicle prototypes have been around for years but only recently have the big automotive manufacturers started to produce these vehicles on a larger scale. Their growing popularity around the world can be attributed to government backing through policies and purchase incentives. As of 2016, China and the US have the largest fleets of electric vehicles on the road.

Galway foresees the electric vehicle market to continue on this growth path as advances in technology reduce the price of vehicles and the cost to run them, making them more competitive with traditional diesel/petrol vehicles.
